Why I Teach

In total, only about five of us had any exposure to guns and weapons of any kind. Seventeen others had to start with the basics and catch a ride on the learning curve. In my opinion, it was an excellent class because the content was very thorough.

Not just gun basics but how to lessen the chance of getting into a “situation” to begin with. They also showed several examples of how fast an assailant can actually move when they are determined! They also showed the importance of practice for the inexperienced and experienced at the same time.

In time, I had the fortune to sit in on other classes and assess both content and instructor – mildly put I was left unimpressed. They did their students a grave injustice by not covering even half of what I studied in my class and for the life of me I do not understand why.

Why would they not stress practice when it is absolutely crucial to be prepared for what you may hope and pray never happens? I came across an example of this just last year. I was asked to sit in on a class by a business to evaluate the class and instructor, and listened to the instructor speak for twenty minutes about an unrelated topic. He spent fifteen seconds on a topic which requires fifteen minutes, qualified the students improperly by standards, and cut the class almost an hour shorter than is required by the state of Florida!

Folks, this type of training is just wrong. Any instructor, club, or business that does this is trying to make a little extra money by cheating you, the state and society in general. Do you want to go out and be around an insufficiently trained and armed populace? I certainly don’t. Hence the slogan – “Some are faster. Few are better”.

Ladies and Gentleman, I want to make money – who doesn’t! But I have never done it by taking advantage of others and I’m too old to start compromising now. So, I make you this promise. I will give you the best training I possibly can. Period.

In the end we will both sleep better. You didn’t get cheated and I didn’t rob anyone.

Another reason I teach these classes is because I don’t wish to see anyone become a victim due simply to the unavailability of instruction in this area. We are all entitled to the right of self-defense. The Bible states this and so the does the State of Florida which has enforced that right even more so when it enacted the “Castle Law”.
